Legal advice- help please!
i got home tonight to be told a high court enforcement officer had been waiting for me- presumably to serve me with something. This would be for a debt, right?

I'm assuming they will come back, but I have no idea what it's about and to my knowledge have no (and have never had any) debts whatsoever. I have not been given any letters or warnings that I have a debt, or been contacted by anyone about it. I pay all my bills, credit card, mortgage on time, don't have any old credit or store cards or anything so I'm completely clueless as to what this could be for.

I don't know what to do, or if I should do anything before they come back. Any advice please? Have I got a way of finding out what it supposedly is for, at least?

When they do come, first and foremost should I refuse entry?

refuse entry, don't call any numbers provided and pay nothing. let them contact you again, it's probably scammers putting things through multiple doors

You've been told this by who?

Sounds dodgy but understand its the not knowing/ waiting that causes concern.

Don;t think so. I live in a block and when I got in tonight the security guy told me an actual enforcement person from the High Court came round with a bodycam on to serve me a letter. It's literally the first I've heard of it. I've had nothing through the post, email, over the phone or anything.

serious question, do you feed birds? someone I know was grassed by a neighbour for that and a no good cunt from the local council tried to fine her £175

Could it be subpoena?

Have you witnessed something

Got it

Depends how you're fixed financially I suppose. Me personally, I'd want to be ahead of it as much as possible so I'd take legal advice first thing in the morning - if not, talk to CAB. There's rights to appeal against these things I think, but you have to be a little bit careful with these.

As far as I know I haven't witnessed anything, and I haven't been feeding any birds(!)

What things do they actually come round for? I don;t even know. I'm assuming it's a debt of some sort but I'm completely clueless as to what it could be. Shouldn't I at least have had some sort of warning before someone comes round?

Thanks! What do you mean by I need to be a bit careful? Just really not sure what I should do or how I should act. I assume under no circumstances let them in for starters.

You have seven days once they give you the letter if it's a notice of enforcement.

Sure some experts can chime in but it can't arise from anything from the consumer credit agreement

Only experience I have with them is at work - and we've always paid them to make them fuck off. Their argument is always that we were advised in advance of court proceedings etc, but these things often get lost in a big company. As with most things, it really depends who you get - some are human, patient and will talk you through everything. Some are absolute jobsworth cunts

You can check for any judgements against you on the Gov.Uk site under the Register of Judgements - says it costs about £10 but at least you know that site is legit.

Wanker that owned this house before me ran up congetion charges parking fines etc.
Had monkeys on my door trying to serve me notices.
Is your car registered at your place now? You havent missed any fines where bills gone to other homes?

Scorch

As others have said seems dubious. A quick Google and looking at the national debt advice and the high court enforcement association makes it appear even more dubious

If your in London it says it would have come from the Royal courts so you can give them a call tomorrow morning. Then speak to your brief or the cab.

scorch, don't stress about it. they usually give you at least a month to respond to it, and that would be after they've handed it over to you
